Chemical peels are one of the most popular non-surgical procedures available for rejuvenating the skin, in part because mild peels can be done at home or by an aesthetician. For deeper peels that provide better results, you’ll have to visit an experienced physician.

Deeper peels use a phenol mixture, a much stronger chemical than the trichloroacetic acid used in mild peels. Because of this, deeper peels should only be administered by a knowledgeable physician with experience handling and applying the mixture.

Deeper peels require more downtime, as they create a stronger reaction in the skin. Most deep peels will require seven to ten days of downtime.
