Three wavelengths of light are used in IPL acne treatment:
- Acne bacteria are eliminated using 420 nm (blue light)
- Swollen acne lesions are address with 560 nm (yellow light)
- Hyperactive oil glands are treated with 590 nm (red light)
The IPL procedure for acne treatment starts with the application of a cooling protective gel to the area targeted. This step protects the skin’s top layer from the IPL energy pulses.
Next, pulses of light are directed towards the area using the treatment’s handpiece. The tip of the device is moved along the skin during this process.
Once treatment is complete, the gel is removed, and a product is administered to the skin to aid in post-treatment recovery.
In three to six sessions, intense pulsed light (IPL) or a laser technology will even out the skin’s surface and increase the formation of new collagen.
